If fiction is a reflection of life, it is one distorted by the mind of the author. It is his twisted reflection you see in the fun-house mirror, as he attempts to delight, confuse, or terrify his audience.

But if he does his job well, the just for an instant it will be yourself that you see in that mirror, and that is a very dark portrait indeed.
